geforce 2 mx in desktop stretch mode

In the manual it says that you can use a geforce 2 mx in dual screen mode with desktop stretch settings 1024x768 for the first display and 640x480 for the second display. If I switch my settings to stretch, the resolution for the first display doesn't go higher than 1024x600, and resolume won't open. Is there anybody out there with the same problem?
