Arena Edge Blending

Post by kmifflin »

We need the option to be able to blend each side of a slice separately. Any time I've used a hardware solution for blending 3 or more projectors (i.e. DiVentix's or Spider) I have the options for each side of the blend. Right now arena does does not allow me to properly blend the centre projector

So far we have not felt a need to adjust each side of the blends separately. We have recently done an installation with 7 blended projectors and did not need to adjust the blends on 1 slice separately to get a (near) perfect blend.

Could you send us a picture and example of a situation when you needed it?

having more freedom with the blends would be great!, I've been wanting to do a compound curve blend for awhile, and although i haven't tried it since getting arena, i doubt it will work.

Hi, I am doing some edge blending simulation tests here. I say simulations because I don´t have two screen outputs. My goal is to use TH2G and blend 3 screens in near future.
Well, for instances, I created two slices. I partially overlayed them and turn edge blending on.
I´d like to understand why my tests are not working. I never get a proper blend between slices. I allways get some sort of dark shadowed blend between slices.
What am I missing?

tks

Edge blending works on the principle that you fade out the physical output of two projectors. This is the dark shadowed blend you see. In that area, together they will produce just enough light as a single projector would.

This means you cannot see the result of edge blending without actually trying it on the projectors.

How is IR Mapio for edge blending different from Arena's own Soft Edge option? Does it result in better outputs. I am stitching two projector outs and using Arena's soft edge feature there is too much of a burn effect appearing.

Mapio is now called Visution, and in my opinion it's better than the Arena edge blending. Since the 1.6 update, it's got more control than Arena

Please help me.
I am having such difficulties to use edge blending while mapping at the same time. Is is possible? Am I stupid enough by not understanding this?
It is a flat plane. Two projectors, two slices and a tripple head.
As I am only working with two projectors, left and central, I am keeping my footage on the left as well.
I haven´t aligned projectors, didn´t care about it, but for some overlaying on projections.
Slices are also overlaying but no matter what I do, I can´t manage to map distortions and see the proper blending.
Is there a cool tutorial about this using Arena?
Please, help. I have a huge event next week and I am starting to get worried.

thanks a lot!!!

Edge blending and warping do not work together.

Edge blending expects you to recreate the physical overlap of the projectors in the input selection, and then leave the output transformation alone ( aside from minor perspective corrections ). This is because it is expecting the sides of the projection to be the area where the overlap is. If you start warping the edges, you'll get very weird results.

If you need to warp the output of multiple projectors to objects, just make sure you can map each surface with a single projector, and mask out any overlapping projections of the others.
