Mapping a 20m x 6m Panel

Post by pfelberg »

I have a flat panel 20m wide x 6m in height, which I will need to map soon.
Equipment available are: my MacBookPro + MTH2G + up to 3 15K projectors.
I´d like to hear your suggestions for this simple setup, like composition format, movie sizes, etc.
As I never actualy did anything that big, any comment or suggestion is very welcome.
thanks

That´s exactly the issue. What would be the best solution/resolution to work in a panel that big.

hi,
i woud take 3 projectors with 4-3 aspect and 1024x 768 resolution... so u can use 2 times 2x6 meters for the softedge.
the comp in resolume should be 2560x768. 3072 minus the pixels for the edge blending.
pls tell me if i am wrong.

Please, someone tell me if I am in the right path here, please?
I´ve been doing some math and I ended up with this setup:
Figure 01 shows the panel, which is actually a portal, an entrance. It has 20m wide by 6m height. The entrance itself has 6m by 3m.
The content will be an unique looping video, about one minute long and already masked.

So I have available 03 projectors and one MTH2G as mentioned before.
As suggested and as I do not wish to work with massive pixel resolutions, I am sticking with 3x1024x768. So, that gives me a total frame of 3072x768.
Panel proportions will not fit on that frame size, leaving some dozen of unused pixels on the sides. That was never important to me before, but for the first time I will be edge blending.
Fortunaltely, if I define edge blending to 248 pixels, the frame width will drop to (3072 - 496) = 2576 which will fit exactly witht the panel/mask proportion.
Figure 02 shows the panel and edge blending.
Question: should I keep composition size to 2576x768 or keep on 3072x768 due to the MTH2G?
Am I doing this right?

In general I think you've got the right idea, but you may be overthinking it a bit.

Remember that softedging in Resolume works by recreating the physical overlap of the projectors as an overlap between slices in the input selection of the Advcanced Output. So on paper you might come down to exactly 248 ( or whatever ) pixels, in the real world it could be more or less, depending on how your projectors are actually overlapping.

Just cover the panel with your three projectors as best you can without throwing too much away at the edges, and that's going to be the setup. I would keep the comp full trips width, and then move the left and right slices in towards the middle.
