Resource Efficiancy w/ Black Areas, LED
Whats the best way to keep the computer from rendering useless areas of a screen? For example a led wall processor is set for a certain resolution but the actually led area is <half as many pixels (i know you can change resolution on some processors, but not all). Does it strain the system the least (and therefore keep fps high) to setup as slices, masks, layer scaling...? Trying to get the most out of laptop setups, Thanks

Even after choosing a standard output resolution from your LED video processor, you still have to set the exact height and width from the processor corresponding to your particular LED screen. For example if you are using a LED wall of 640x384 pixels, you may choose the LED video processor's output resolution as 1024x768 but you still have to set the width from the processor as 640 and the height as 384
I always try to choose a resolution closest to the aspect ratio of my LED screen ( since LED screens have very non standard aspect ratios). Also your source material should be ideally of the same resolution as your LED screen

My question seemingly wasn't clear, apologies.
My intent isn't to discuss the led screen itself, but how Resolume handles black sections of the screen.
For one simple example that I do regularly, I have a screen that is 768 pixels wide by 32 pixels tall. Should I set the composition to that exact pixel count and use slices to place the image in the right place for a processor set for 1024*768? Or should I set the composition to the display size of 1024*768 and use layer sizing/positioning to place content? Lets assume that I'm using both pixel perfect content, and imperfect content that will be stretched and squeezed as required.
Thoughts?

Theoretically, using a 768x32 comp would be more efficient. I highly doubt you will see any significant difference with using 1024x768 though.
When you start running 6 layers at 4K resolution, these sorts of optimizations come into play, but before then, I wouldn't worry about it.

As soon as I get the opportunity to work on a 4k led wall, i'll let you know

A 4k LED wall would be a dream.. That huge a wall would get one's adrenaline pumping in no time

For such a small resolution you're unlikely to see a performance difference like goto10 said....maybe 0.5 fps tops
