gui on a weaker graphics card - how is resolume using gpus?

Post by pixelschubser »

my question concerns how is resolume using my gpus - as i get a lot off different fps in different settings.

i have a mac pro with three grafic cards in it - two ati 5770 and one ati 2600

my clips are in dxv!

if i use the 2600 for the resolume gui and one output screen on the first ati 5770 i get around 10 fps
if i use the first ati 5770 for the gui and on the same ati 5770 one output screen i get 40 fps
if i use the first ati 5770 for the gui and on the second ati 5770 one output screen i get 60 fps

but this seems not to be an mac or win problem as i have read that people seems to have same problems on win machines.

and what happens if i have for example an pc with a onboard grafics card (which is in the meantime usual in laptops and towers) and i use the onboard mostly weaker graphics for the gpu.

so my question is how does resolume use exactly the gpu - and in which connection does the gui stands to the gpu.

ah found the answer:

Processing however is only done on the GPU that has the interface on it. Adding another card does not double your power, in fact it makes it harder for the computer because it has to spread the texture over two cards. So that's why we advise to use a single card as much as possible. Performance will be better with a single card with 6 outputs than two cards with three each.
