Dual ATI 7990 Issues

Post by dijjital »

System Config:
Win7 64
Resolume Arena 4.1.6
Dual Asus HD7990 (ATI Driver 12.14)
32GB DDR3

I'm having a slam-my-head-against-the-wall problem here. I'm running a club setup with 7 outputs (3 1024x768, 3 1280x720, 1 1920x1080 for GUI) running out of 2 HD7990 cards. I can get all my displays outputting correctly via windows display manager (I'm definitely getting output to all my displays). Once I launch into resolume however one of my displays consistently will not output. Resolume will simply not address one of my video card outputs, and it's not consistent which output it won't address. Has anyone else had serious multi-output problems with arena 4.1.6 and these ATI cards?

Update. I've found that when I minimize Resolume's GUI and go back into windows desktop manager and hit "Identify" a single frame from the output from Resolume routed to the offending screen will appear and freeze. This is most definitely a bug with Resolume and this particular video card/driver. Please FIX!

Other noteworthy info, after finding static on the forums about DWM.exe and the 7790 series of ATI cards I went ahead and tried disabling the service in windows to no avail.

Resolume guys are pretty straight up in not supporting dual GPU cards. I had a 6990 and it would randomly crash and flicker when I would alt tab. I've also found that AMD cards tend to be pretty wonky depending on what driver version you have. I would try abunch of different driver versions and pray one works. Or do what I did and just grab a GTX 680.

Ok, so dual core cards are not supported... I did not realize that! Well now I know, I will let you know how things develop

I'd like to try using previous versions of the ATI Catalyst driver software. I can only seem to find one previous version for windows7 64-bit (v.13.4). Anyone know where I can find other versions of the driver software for the Radeon HD7990?

It's important to note that Resolume only supports a single GPU, the the 7990 is a dual GPU card so your actually asking Resolume to access 4 GPUs. I've had lots of success using a 7970 card and two tripleheads2go - 10 outputs in total 9 outputs running 1080p@30 and a control running 1920x1080@60. While maintaining 60 fps.

Why are you running such an old driver. I just did a show with 13.9 and had no problems. I'm pretty sure the 7990 came out well after 12.4
