hi
i have a dell inspiron 8100 with mobilty 7500 graphic card with real dual display it works well
laptops
and gericom laptop ? geforce 4go 32 mo chip inside , 1.6 ghz p4 and lowest price !! < 2000 euros (http://www.gericom.at)
I also just bought an Asus iBuddie desknote although it's sold under another name outside South Africa. It's a P4 1.6 with only 256Mb ram. No fancy graphics card, just an integrated SiS 650 chip. I can do dual screens with no problem and have even managed to play back two layers using 720x576 avi's with DV compression.
With the mideo codec, three layers with FX isn't a problem.

the laptop question.
)
has anybody thought of buying a rackmount PC?
I'm really happy with that.
You get perfect cooling for hot club events, you can use high speed processors, any graphic card you want and can plug in a 15" TFT as a monitor. AND you can scale your setup. If you get a 6 height-unit rack, you can build in up to 3 2height-unit PCs. Or use 2 PCs and other rackmount video equipment and mix the output together.
I'm really happy with that. Its secure, shock resistant, outdoor-ready and all my stuff (midi keyboard, controller, TFT, cables) is in one case only. Ok, its heavier than a laptop, but not more expensive and much more resistant. And you can upgrade.
Try upgrading you laptop with a new cpu or different graphic card...
all the best
