Not sure what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to animate or assign the parameter to the dashboard? You can't do both at the same time so you have to chose.
To assign to the dashboard, you can just drag the parameter to the know you want to use or click on the arrow to the left of the parameter and choose the Dashboard option.
To animate, click on the arrow to the left of the parameter (see pic below) and choose any of the animations (Basic, Timeline, Clip Position.....) and adjust the animation parameters as needed.
