i just formatted my system drive and reinstalled windows xp with sp2.
unfortuneatly all this MS fancy stuff is slowing down my machine a lot...

let's start to collect performance tweaks and tips here!

btw: i now have two HDs, one for systm & progs, one as AV drive. is it very important to have OS and programs on different harddrives?

thx... been there - done that ;)
i now can also recommend progs like:
X-Setup Pro & XP Antispy, both very handy....

i have a question regarding the display setup:
is it better to use
DUAL HEAD (2 monitors)
or using
DVD MAX (Overlay functions) ?

has anyone tried out the various combinations of setting up displays and come to a final clue? (i cant right now...)

In our tests we get better results with dual head. DVD MAX/Theater mode works but is usually a bit slower.

hi ninja,

tried it with 1.51, to be exact i used 1 comp with dvd max and 1 with the output on 2nd monitor for a while.
my findings were that dvd-max lags a couple of frames because of the internal rendering in the videocard.
can be quite anoying at times.

this is a great site for tweaking windows xp. it was made with audio in mind, but most of this stuff applies to video as well. they tell you specifically which processes are not needed and how to turn them off, and lots of other great tweaks of the setttings:
