Im just about to buy a midi, my first one. I have some qestions as to what you think is best. Im narowing down to a beringher bcf 2000 and a evolution uc33. The beringher has motorized knobs, does this mean that when i move a slider in resolume with a mouse also the slider on the midi unit will move. I think this means resolume wuld send a midi signal back to the device. If motorized sliders mean only smooth eqal transitions is this worth it given the acuracy of the softwere.

Also a qestion about the amount of sliders and knobs actualy on the device. Can i assign a separate slider to contorl the oppacity of each layer and by moving it on the midi make that layer active if it is not active at the moment. Like if the first layer is active and i move the sider assignet to control the oppacity of the second layer, will the second layer become active. If not than i guess only one slider for opacity wuld be better.

Also im realy exited about your custom made midi, how is that going, when can we expect you shiping those babys.

hi Seex,

i think the motorised faders only work when u activate a pre defined setting on the machine itself or with the app that came with the device...
i can't emagine resolume shipping with support for all the motorised fader midi devices...

but what u explained in the 2nd paragraphe, i use the griffin powermate for that... only 1 controller which controls the fader which has the focus in the interface.

i never believed in midi much to be honest, certanly not with the multiple decks in 2.0.
it will always be a combination between keyboard mouse and midi, and never alone midi...
and the disadvantages of dragging an extra piece of equipment...
but he... thats personal i gues...

greetz,

Thanks SuperFicial,

That powremate looks interesting, i like the hifi qality of it. My main point of considering midi is to get more flexible conrol over the scratching of the parameters like the gain function in 2.0. I tend to loose control, using a mouse and looking at the screen. An anlog control wuld be much apriciated here. As for now from what i can figure out i wuld need a separete slider to control the opacity of layer 1.2.3 and also make that layer active with a click. This is a drawback since this wuld couse me to do more actions than only using a mouse scroler to do the same thing.

Idealy i wuld have three sliders fot each layers opacity but wuld expect resolume to activate that layer when i move the slider on the midi. Or the other way round one slider for active layer opacity, both of this things wuld make sense, but are they possible?

hi, we have the behringer and it blows our edirol pcr30 away. The sliders are fabulous, endless rotaries rock AND a lot of buttons (you can push the rotaries as well, they double as buttons :) )
As far as I know Resolume does not (yet?) support midi out. If it did the sliders and rotaries would follow the things you do with your mouse...
The midi out will be one of my feature request, it would ROCK!!
You can assign a slider for opacity for each layer, works like a charm, no selection needed.
See the midi settings in preferences, you can control virtually anything with midi :D

buy the behringer!

Thanks Martin, the behringer also looks more solid. Endless rotary knobs, i guess that comes handy when you move the parameter with the mouse and then the midi can pickup wherever you stoped it, but whats the deal with the sliders does the parmeter walue drop or jump to what the midi is sending out when you move it? If it was moved with the mouse before, that is.

well, the behringer will not pick up the signal from resolume, it does not have midi out. So it does not move the sliders either. But basicly it is the way the behringer works, yes.

I use teh UC-33 you mentioned.............brilliant, works well, some sliders have an amount of latency but what teh hell when your moving fast...!!!!

No seriously, i've no complaints at all, also tested with Resolume 2.0, looks good. But when oh when will we get the final version, I'm not paying over my hard earned cash for a beta version....!

i use two doepfer units, the faderbox (16 faders) and a pocket dail (16 endless rotators) in combination with my laptops keyboard to trigger the clips. they are small and solid, never had any complains. at the moment i'm working on a custom made controller for resolume...
