new in resolume

Post by jldpaula »

Hi,

New on this forum but not in this bussiness. Anyway, i´m designing an instalation for a client with 6 projectors (using 2 matrox triple head). 3 of them will do a blending. As fas as i´ve seen, there is no problem with outputs but , can Resolume work with this configuration or i should use another software like IR Mapio? Is fixed installation (a restaurant). Unfortunatelly i can not reproduce the client installation until everything is set up in the restaurant. We are going to use a computer with i7, gtx750, 16gb ram, SSD... shouldn´t be any problem with the performance, and also only one video is going to be played at once (is a restaurant).

Also, i´m looking for info about capture cards. I´m looking (because the price...) for AverMedia products, with HDMI and VGA input. The client wants to do, for example, one video as background and another smaller video (PIP) with a football match for example. I´ve been reading about problems using this devices (some old posts anyway) and i don´t know the situation about this. Any recomendations?

Thanks in advance

Resolume will be able to handle what you are describing without any problems but you want to make sure the GTX 750 can take 2 Matrox TH2G. If you can swing it financially, I would personally upgrade the GPU to a GTX 780,

If money is not an issue since it's a permanent installation, I would look into the Datapath X4-1U (http://www.datapath.co.uk/products/mult ... atapath-x4). It's a lot more expensive than the Matrox TH2G but it's a very stable work horse. Unfortunately with 6 outputs, you'd need 2 units so that might be way too much!

As far as entry level capture card that can handle HDMI and analog, I would recommend the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro (https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/). It works great with Resolume out of the box and you'll be able to create PIP screens very easily using a second layer for the capture card and slices in the advanced output that use the capture card layer as an input.

Good luck with your install.

Hi jldpaula,
I just want to add another capture device to the list from Oaktown.
I've made some really good experience with the Magewell HDMI capture dongle.

Here I wrote a little review for the Magewell HDMI capture dongle

Cosmowe, I keep forgetting about the Magewell but I need to give it a try.

Have you been able to run multiple USB3 to HDMI or HD/SDI units on a powered USB3 hub?

Thanks for your time!
Unfortunatelly, the money is a problem so far...there are so many thing in the installation...Anyway i will look to change for a gtx780 or higher. Datapath is going to be more difficult...i knew this hardware but since Matrox TH2G works well enough...
So if i have understood correctly, there is no need for madmapper...
About video input cards, i've been looking for avermedia devices...they want to put some football matches and from time to time, use the space for meeting and to display some powerpoints and so...
But taking into account that from a beginning they have been looking to another software that is 3 times more expensive...with the diference i could play to get better hardware.

Again, thank you

Resolume Arena has very extensive mapping options and with a few exceptions will be very similar to Madmapper. I map with both Arena and Madmapper on a regular basis and the main reason I use Madmapper is when I need to program multiple mapping presets which can used as cues.

Also, Unless there's been new and recent development Madmapper doesn't work on PC so you wouldn't be able to use it on the setup you describes anyways unless you added a mac with a capture card.

and taking advantage of your experience...Does resolume work better with AMD/ATI boards? Or doesnt matter? Iḿ looking that for the "same performance" (looking specialiced websites) is cheaper than NVIDIA. With processors i prefer to go for intel instead of AMD if the system is not going to be for me...but with grapphic cards i'm a little bit lost knowadays with so many models that are remakes overclocked from older models...argh!

By board you mean GPU, correct?

AMD's interface (Catalyst) and drivers can be glitchy so I'd go with NVidia if possible. If you can afford it I would get the EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB SC with ACX Cooler 6GB GDDR5 384-Bit SLI Ready Graphics Card 06G-P4-3787-KR (~$600) and you won't regret it.

I've also had pretty good luck with the newer AMD cards and I own a couple of XFX Double D R9 270X 1050M Boost Ready 2GB DDR5 2XmDP HDMI 2XDVI (~$200 per card) that I run in Xfire and they've been running great. I just did a show that was a 3840x1080 comp with multiple layers clocking at nearly 60fps without any glitches.

Hi Oak,
no I didn't try it beacause I'm only owning one hdmi device. But it should work...the only limit could be the bandwidth of the usb controller the hub is connected to....if you want to capture full HD
