Resolume crashes periodically

Post by baustellen »

Hey Folks,
since a few weeks I have a problem with Resolume crashing randomly. It just crashs from time to time, without a specific reason. I use mostly DXV-Clips. I haven't changed my Hardware-Setup and I already installed Resolume new a few times.

I use a 15inch mid 2012 Macbook-Pro with 2,3Ghz-Quad-Core, 16gb of Ram and a SSD. I use Mac OS X 10.9.4.
It would be super great, if you could help me.

Hi Baustellen,
mostly DXV-Clips
may you tell us what other codecs you use beside DXV?

Greetings

Also, make sure you are using Res 4.1.11.

To follow up on Cosmowe's question, and after you've installed 4.1.11, make sure all you clips are DXV codec.

I did a large show a few months ago (with 4.1.10) and my composition kept on crashing. All my clips were in DXV codec except for eight 2-second clips that were in ProRes 4444 with alpha channel. They were all layered up and loaded in many columns taken in rapid succession with many effects but considering they were so short, I didn't even think that they could be the cause of the crash! Resolume would run out of memory after the 5 or 6th column trigger and crash.

I ran the eight clips in MPEG Streamclip and converted them to DXV with alpha with the same names, closed my composition, replaced the clips in my media folder (I always keep all my media in one folder to make it easy to reload the composition on a different computer) and restarted Resolume. Since all my files were the same name, it all loaded right up and the comp ran at 30FPS with close to 27 layers with no problems.

I only use DXV and updated to 4.1.11. Even though it keeps on crashing. I can reproduce the crash, every time I want to duplicate a layer in a certain composition Resolume crashs.
I also checked my RAM+HD and they seem to be ok.
Any solution?

How many clips do you typically have in a layer when you duplicate it?

Have you tried to create a new layer, cut all the clips out from the layer you want to duplicate, paste them in the new layer, duplicate the empty layer, then paste all the clips back into the layer you duplicated and it's duplicate to see if you get the same crash when you're duplicating an empty layer without all of the layer settings but no clips?

Hey,
i did so and it keeps crashing. And I went further and deleted all clips, effects and midi-mapping from the composition and created a new, empty application midi-map.
Still the same thing, but surprisingly only in 4.1.11 it crashs! in 4.1.6 I can duplicate the layer till i get old and noting happens.
I went even further and created a new, empty composition in 4.1.11. If I go on duplicating layer, after the 20th or 30th resolume crashs!
Here is the crash file of this scenario (new comp, duplicating layers, 4.1.11)
https://www.scribd.com/doc/242810881/4- ... ting-layer

And here is the comp, where the specific layer makes resolume 4.1.11 crashes, by duplicating it several times. The badly-minded layer is called "crasher".

Hrm, really strange!

So I just spent a little time duplicating layers in a new comp, using Avenue 4.1.11 on OSX 10.9.5 It seems to work ok for me. Would be interesting to see what makes your setup different.

Could you try deleting your config.xml, starting Resolume and seeing it it happens again?

Btw, check out the layer name after making so many copies of copies of copies :D

layer 3 Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy Copy

Hey,
thanks for the fast response!!
I deleted the config.xml and still crashes after duplicating the specific layer.
Hrm!!

Edit: Also the standart-comp, which comes up, after deleting the config-file (with all those beatiful resolume-clips) crash, if I duplicate a layer several times. So probably there's something wrong with my machine, I would guess...

Sorry, I meant to start with a fresh, blank composition. In strange bugs like this it's best to eliminate as many variables as possible.
