Flash Frame while triggering new clip.

Post by ianmcdan »

I'm running into a strange issue where it looks like the last frame that was played from any particular clip will play right when I click the clip to start over again. I'm running a live TV show where we start in complete darkness. I've x'd out the layer so nothing is playing. (Only using a single layer) Then I play the clip and a flash frame from the middle of the clip pops up full screen instead of the black that is at the beginning of the file. It happens on all clips from what I can tell... Unless I add black at the end of the clip, fast-forward to the end where it's also in black, then it flashes every time I start the clip.

I'm running a MacBook Pro Retina 15" latest model. NVIDA with two 1920x1080 outputs.

Any ideas on how to stop it?

I remember having something like this on an older version. I have not seen this since a while.

the fastest workaround I can think of for now is to set a minimal layer transition time, so when the clip starts it fades in very fast.

can you post a screenshot of your comp setup?

It's a very straight-forward comp. DXV codec. 1664x1248 (which is to accommodate the four screens I'm outputting to. (Inside of two 1920x1080 outputs)
All the clips are at 29.97.

Even with a slight fade, I still see a small amount of the video. It's like it hasn't emptied out the buffer from the last stopping point. The fade at the top even fades that part in if it's short enough... which means that it's more than one frame... probably more like 2-3.

try to duplicate the clips in the column,
then delete the audio from the original and delete the video from the copy.
so each clip only contains one stream.
does this solve the issue?

edit: I could reproduce, with video and audio in one clip.

So playing audio and video separately? Hmm... That would make sense if it's buffering the audio...

It will be an hour before I can test. I've got all my machines rendering after effects at the moment.

I've also been able to recreate this on 4.1.11. It seems to have fixed itself on the 4.2 beta.

Feel free to contact us for a test version of 4.2 ( mail@resolume.com ). Would be great if we can confirm that it's 100% gone.

Btw, thanks for the help tracking this one down, Ravensc!

Thanks! Sent the e-mail. Hope that this works!

In the mean time, I tried just separating the clips as suggested and it seemed to work. Although I was dropping serious frames since I'm also rendering after effects with nearly 100% CPU on all cores while doing this... But there was no flash frame doing it that way. Very curious to see about 4.2 beta.

Sorry to bump this thread up,
I can see this again with a 4 minutes DXV file with audio in R 5.x
when a file with audio has been played, and you are launching it again then a frame of the clip flashes.

removing the audio to a separate clip solves it again.
