Trying to stop clips being cut off with next trigger

Post by SAWCSSCS »

Hi Guys
Sorry this is not going to be very technical. We are with a not for profit organisation and we have had someone build a system for us using Resolume Arena 4 to play video on to 3 TV screens. We are having some issues with it and the guy who did the work is now in the middle of some forest and can't be contacted. So looking for some help. Have read all the manuals I can find and got answers to fix some of the issues except one.

The clips are linked via a Midi to a panel of buttons. Push one button and it plays a clip on two three screens ( 3 channels set up). Problem is if someone pushes another button (ie kids) before the first one finishes it cuts off the first clip. We were told this wouldn't happen ie it would play to end go back to screensaver and then could select next one. Is there something in the settings that might have been missed or was this guy wrong about being able to program like this!

Thank you for any help anyone can provide.

It sounds like what you're trying to do is possible using Resolume, but how to do it depends a lot on how your guy set up your composition.

It's kind of hard to give advice, because it's such a very specific use.

Perhaps if you explained a bit more about how the comp is set up to work, we can help you better.

It sounds like your guy programmed a Midi controller to trigger clips when you push buttons, right? I don't think there is an easy way to force a clip to play until it's finished if you trigger another clip.

As far as I know, that would involve programming a third party software (such as MaxMSP or TouchDesigner) to parse the Midi information and put the trigger on hold until the current clip is finished or lock the Midi controller to avoid manual input when a clip is running.

My best advice is to put the Midi controller out of kid's reach until your guy comes out of the woods, but maybe he's hiding in the woods because he knows that's not going to be an easy one ;)

You've explained what we want to happen much better than we could Oaktown, thank you. Yes we want to put the trigger on hold until the current clip is finished or lock the Midi controller to avoid manual input when a clip is running.

With that explanation, we've got someone to look at programming the midi controller to do just that.

The criteria we gave when requesting the computer set up was that with 20 - 24 buttons to choose from, we would need to run up to 60 ish short videos therefore requiring several clips to run off each button.

But not one after another without a break, we wanted the controller to cycle through them as well as hold position for the next push of that trigger button and allow the user to select a different (or several different) buttons. before selecting button #1 clip 2 etc.

The programme also seems to have issues recognising 3 identical TV's as outputs at high resolution 1920x1080. only picking up 3 outputs when the resolution is dropped to 1600x900 or lower are we doing something wrong as the manual doesn't mention any resolution/multi output issues. Cheers.

That issue doesn't come from the program so can you describe your complete setup (OS, motherboard, CPU, GPU, distribution system)?
