calculating camera angles/film size for 3D mapping

Post by Cannedbeef »

Hi, I'm trying to map an array of cubes I made in AE onto a scale model of the cubes.
I'm having trouble finding out how to calculate the variables so my animations fit on my 3D model.

I found a page explaining how to work with this but sadly lost the link.

This is what i'm trying to map onto a structure of cubes but I can't get it to fit correcly without transforming the output greatly.

Any help or hints pointing me in the right direction are greatly apreciated.

angel of view should be the same then your projector in the final show

more i cant say

and the simulated point of view should be the same too. distance, height

just take a picture from the position of the projector lens, use that as an overlay in AE to match the animation.
that should be a nearly accurate simulation.

But keep in mind that regardless of how accurate you AE simulation is, you'd still have to map each panel onto your 3D cubes and because of the way the advanced output works it's not going to be an easy task.

In order to do fit AE to your output, you'd need to start from the actual model and take at least one picture from the "perspective" of the projector and use that layout to build the model in AE.

Based on what you're describing, I would think that it'd be a lot easier to build a flat AE comp where all you panels are 2D rectangles and do the 3D mapping directly in Resolume rather than building a precise 3D model in AE and try to fit it on your 3D model.
