iMac spec:
21.5-inch: 2.9GHz
Specifications
2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
8GB (two 4GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 1GB video memory
I don't think an Intel Core i5 CPU combined with a 5400-rpm hard drive and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with only 1GB of VRAM is a great system especially for VJ'ing. Why don't you run the benchmark on the system to figure out what it can handle? That way you can give them guidelines to create comps the system can handle.

Sorry my bad!!
I was surprised when I saw the reply !!
this NEW high grade of 2014 21.5" iMac only has a 5400rpm HDD...
I thought all the new iMacs were all set in SSD as the basic option or fusion drive at least and no need to customize, so I didn't notice it at all...
Now I know why...thanks for reminding!
So the the main reason causes crash may due to the loading speed of this system...

as for the VRAM, my 4 years old MBP only got 512MB and I think it still runs ok...

and I have another question :
since Arena 4 still runs in 32bit, is it has ability to handle RAM that over 4GB?

I don't think that a slow harddrive could cause a crash.

32 bit and memory limits is indeed most likely the issue.

As mentioned by others in this thread, really the best way to avoid these problems is to use DXV *exclusively*, so absolutely no other files than DXV encoded files. This includes stills. This will allow you to use more than 500 files without any memory problems. When you just throw in pictures or unoptimized videos, you can already get into trouble with 50 1080p files.

It sucks, but we're still running a 32 bit system ( thanks to Quicktime ), which was fine 3 years ago, when 20 files of 1024x768 was considered a lot. But now people are throwing in hundreds of 2K files without batting an eye.

Res 5 will have to be 64 bit, because being able to throw in hundreds of 2K files is awesome. But for now, when working with these type of resolutions, really keep an eye on what amounts of data you're actually pushing, and try to keep deck sizes down as much as possible.

Res 5 is still a long way away, partly because updating to 64 bit is a nasty wasps nest. So currently our main focus is improving feedback on memory use. It's just not physically possible to load more than 50 non-DXV encoded files in memory, so we're going to have to stop you from doing this. We'll need to actively warn you when memory is running low and possibly even take measures such as unloading your content for you. We don't like doing this, but it's the only way to prevent crashes when Resolume is being pushed too far.

I think you're absolutely right but a slow drive combined with other factors could lead to a crash.

Arena 4 will only use 4GB but it can only use what's available so if you have only 8GB of RAM shared between the OS, Arena and other things, you need to be careful of what you run at the same time. For software like Sketchup, Premiere, FCPX, Chrome etc... would suck up a lot of your RAM resources! Check with the Activity Monitor and you'll get a good sense of what's available.

Seems that is a great troublesome. :ugeek:
