Renaming Composition input for the layer router

Post by Joris »

As most of you know, the Layer Router is a special Source than can take another layer as its input. This is fun to for instance to process it further with different effects, do all sorts of masking and blending tricks, subdivide your comp into different comps and all sorts of geeky stuff.

It also can take the whole composition as an input.

Except not really.

When set to Composition, it takes the result of the layers *below it* as input. So when you have content in Layers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, 7, plus a Layer Router in Layer 5, when that Layer Router is set to Composition input, it takes the result of Layer 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Not Layer 6 and 7 and no composition effects. Just the result of what's rendered in the chain up until Layer 5.

This name makes sense when used in Slice Routing. A slice has the same input dropdown, but for a slice, the result of everything that is rendered up until the slice is actually the Composition, with effects and everything.

Now we can't magically make the Layer Router take the Comp result as an input. Because the Layer Router is part of the comp, that would break all the universal rules of causality and rip a hole in space/time bigger than Hawking's holes in his black hole theory.

So we're looking for awesome ideas for a new name for the Composition input. One that better reflects what it actually does. So far we've got "Intermediate" and "Result thus far". But I'm sure you guys and gals can do better than that.

Right?
