Five Outputs, only 15 fps :( Questions

Post by mattq »

Needed to do a gig, having four outputs (+monitor) at 1400x1050 each with 60fps. Resolume seems to cut my frame rates in half with each added output. Running it on quite beefy hardware (with two AMD firepro 8gb video cards) and intel i7 6core. Was only able to get 15 fps max. That's with one layer of video playing (DXV encoded, turned off vert sync, etc). Tried this on a 6-Core Mac Cylinder as well with the same results. Others suggest using a datapath x4, with that I was able to get barely 30fps.

Is the reason Resolume can't take advantage of the strong hardware because it is a 32 bit application?

Any other suggestions on how to get Resolume to handle this output at 60fps?

could you tell us more about your composition/output setup, resolution, dxv resolution?(maybe upload a small sample.)
which firepro cards are they?

Are you using active or passive adapters? These AMD cards need active adapters if you use more than 2 outputs.

As far as the Datapath X4, how are you breaking down your outputs? Are you using Dual Link cables and adapters? If you are doing 2800x2100 then you should be able to get 50Hz no problems. Just make sure you've got a DL adapter.

Also as a reminder, you don't really need 60fps, 30fps should be fine for most applications.

AMD FirePro™ W7100 graphics cards
resolution of canvas and dxv video content: 2870x1050
Displayport to DVI adapters are: bizlink bzl-ks10009(B)
Not sure if they are active. Can't seem to find any specific info on them.
Was able to get 60fps across all 5 outputs using these adapters running avolties ai

With Datapath X4, tried with dual link cables and powered adapters on a Mac Cylinder. Couldn't get 50hz.
2870x1050 in, each region sliced up as 1400x1050. Using all dual link dvi.

Hi Mattq,
did you checked your system energy settings? Mostly they are set to "balanced" - Try setting them to "high performance".
In my case I can reach 10fps more. I'm also using a i7 6core but with a gtx970.

Tell us if this helps you.

This sounds like there is something going wrong between your vsync settings and Resolume. Can you contact us directly ( mail@resolume.com ) ?

AMD FirePro™ W7100 graphics cards
The W7100 has 4 outputs (6 if you use MST) so are you running your main monitor on a different card?

Have you tried running your main monitor and 3 1400x1050 outputs on the same card? What Fps do you get?

The Datapath X4 should be able to do 2870x1050 @ 60Hz over dual link DVI no problems so make sure all your DL gear is actually DL as they are not all created equal.

My experience is that if you can't tell they're probably passive adapters. My recommendation would be the Accell B087B-005B

From the AMD website:
A maximum of two active adapters is recommended for consumer systems.

so it sounds like you should have 2 passive and 2 active adapters to get best results with the W7100.
