Frame rate drops on Windows but not on Mac

Post by joshuadmello »

Hey guys,

I had to run an hour long documentary of my arena server a couple of days ago. It was a large 40gb prores file. I converted it to DXV3.
It was a simple two output setup on a LED screen.

I ran it off my windows PC first.
Config -
Arena - 4.2
i7 5960x
32gb DDR4 RAM
gtx 980
x99 pro
samsung PRO 500Gb SSD

After testing it for a while I noticed there was a slight lag. It showed me a full 59-60fps on arena but the video wasnt playing smoothly. Looked like maybe it was running at around 30fps.

I then tried playing this same file of my mid 2012 macbook pro with a triplehead2go
Ive upgrade the drive on this to the same samsung SSD as is on the windows and ive added 16gb RAM.

It played flawlessly on the Macbook Pro.
Even this showed 59-60fps on arena.

Any ideas on why this happened? Im pretty confused.
Thanks in advance.

If it was an AV file, I'd be interested to know what your buffer size was and if it also happens when you split the audio and video to separate files.

Hi Joris,

How do I check the buffer size?

And yea I tried splitting the audio and video as well. Same problem.

Preferences > Audio

And does it play smooth without triggering the audio file?
