Hi there
Hope someone can give me some advice.. fairly urgently..!
I'm encoding several hours of AVCHD MPEG-2 HD files to DVX3 to use in Avenue. This is the first time I've used HD with DVX - and I have a problem. The encoded files, which I was expecting to be neat dinky little things, are MUCH bigger than the original .MTS files - by way of example, a 1'18" .MTS comes in at 214.5 MB, but the corresponding DVX3 encode is a whopping 1.59 GB. This could be a big problem, surely?
I'm doing batch encodes with Adobe Media Encoder.. and the files are 1920 x 1080, 25fps - standard HD in other words, nothing fancy.
Is this normal? Or have I made basic error? These are NOT encoded with HQ, they're 'Normal' quality files with no Alpha.
Should I just not worry about this? Any clues would be appreciated.
Thanks
Daniel

I've noticed that the bitrate of the original MPEG2 file is 20.7 Mb/s, whereas the DVX3 bitrate is 158 Mb/s. I haven't limited the data rate of the encode - should I..? I don't want to do that if I'm just making trouble for myself.

I don't think you can limit the data rate for DXV files, the codec setting has the 4 options you can use to tweak quality and alpha, and I think that's it.
to get smaller files you'd have to lower resolution, or frame rate.

OK.. AME is being very unhelpful at present but I'll persist and see what happens. Thanks.
