Layer Opacity changes when clip is triggered

Post by djewesbury »

Avenue 4.5 on iMac running Yosemite

If I have my Video Opacity Slider set anywhere between 0 and 100 and trigger a new clip by clicking on it, the Opacity Level will change - if I'm currently above 50% it'll creep up, and if I'm below it'll creep down. After a few clicks, my levels have either maxed out or gone all the way down. This is only happening on certain layers! Has anyone else come across this? At first I thought a Composition Opacity setting was confusing things, but no.. I can't find any other setting that would be causing this to happen...

Anyone? Would like to get this fixed as I'm halfway through a tour...!

EDIT - I've noticed this even happens if I re-trigger the same clip...

I am guessing you checked the Opacity setting in the Layer tab. Does it always change to the same opacity or does it land on different (or even random) opacity each time?

Also, check up on the layer's blend mode. Modes like 50 Mask or 50 Add (or any mode beginning with 50) set the Layer's opacity to 50. I don't know if they reset that every time you trigger a clip though.

Last, it is important to note that using the scroll wheel on your mouse while the cursor is hovering over the layer can change its opacity. The same thing happens when hovering over the transitions slider too.

I have been having a similar issue, where I will notice a clip's Opacity is not where I left it, but it has not been so specific to happen exactly when I trigger a clip.

Any more info you have and I will try to help as much as I can.

We took a look on djewesbury's computer via Teamviewer. After being stumped for a few minutes, it turns out some automation setting on the layer's opacity was messing with things.

Thanks for all your replies and thinking along!
