notebook: what CPU ?

hi!

i am thinking about buying myself a notebook for veejaying with resolume, but i have no clue which one i should get! any ideas?

how good is a notebook with centrio m chip for VJing??
or should i go for a P4 3GHz??
or an AThlon 64 ??

could anyone help me please?

Resolume requires CPU over all things - the faster the processor the better - although a 64bit cpu probably won't make any difference.
Centrinos are basically P4 chips with slower clock speeds but more cache - making them often quicker than a P4 at twice the speed - this is only really noticable with general use though - not layering video clips in resolume.
In all honesty though Resolume will run pretty good on any or all new CPUs - you should choose based on what you'll use it for in other areas too - P4 laptops are BIG and hot - centrinos will run on the smell of an oily rag for 4+ hours and 64bit chips mean futureproofing.... decisions eh.

primary i will use the notebook for "working with multimedia"

basically video editing and veejaying,
CAD & webdesign, some 3D as well, maybe some audio engeneering... (will need an extra sound device for that).

so is an centrio chip at 1.5 GHz is as fast as a p4 at 3GHz? or does this depend on the application running?
what is definitely best for working with video?
P4 with HT? or will a fast CENTRIO do the job?

anybody out there, who wants to share experiences?
what's the programmers' advice?

my thoughts on this:

get a P4 HT, every software package is designed to work on desktops(P4HT) and not on the quite newer technology of centrio or the M series from Intel.

but that brings me to the question: why a laptop? if you want to do all of the above, get a small form pc like a shuttle or something.
u can configure it the way you want with one AGP (or PCI-Xtreme) videocard an a pci soundcard, 2 HD's etc.
its upgradable, its not slower when u compare it to a tower...
for short:
NO 4200/4300 Rpm HD (i know there are 7200 Rpm HD's in laptops but that is the higher price segment, for the price of one of those laptops you can buy 2 or 3 shuttles)
NOT just 1 HD.
NO "speedstep"
NOT an extremely high thievery chance on a gig when your in the toiltet or something.
NO shitty shared Ram videocard...
NO (or less) chance of thumping the thing till it breaks, internal spaces are bigger in a tower or shuttle.

but to answer your question: comparing different series of processors is almost as functional as comparing Pentiums with Athlons...
apples and oranges you know..
different structure different goal...
the pentium is the "workstation" processor of Intel, so go with that...

hi!! i had the same cuestion time ago, and finally
i am working with

samsung centrino 1.4ghz
and ati 32mg
and vaio centrino 1.6ghz
ati 64 mg

both with external drive, they work great and fast, multilayer with effects, in more than 500hours sesions no problem, i cant feel the diference betwen samsumg and sony 1,4 or 1,6
I think centrino is good election, if you think that you can put all your hardwear into a little bag 8kg.

im currently waiting for delivery on a new laptop will be vj for prog rock band 2.8ghz centrino and 64mb graphics card 540 quid english from tiny.com good deal should do the job check it out.
