So heres my question folks..
I haven't found anything to beat my old school Arkaos software (pre grandVJ) when it comes to recording output, in that no other software records your actions and after playback has stopped begins the export. This creates perfect recorded compositions with no lag or pixel degradation.
Arkaos is no more, Resolume in performance is miles ahead and my outputs are getting better with each new version, but they are never that great - always slightly jittery and a little blurred. Maybe it's just to my eye, being the creator but these imperfections I do want to reduce in some way.
Do any of you folks use after effects to sharpen? Do you have any post FX tips/workflows you can share to help improve upon the quality, I'm open to all suggestions..

Re: improving upon recorded composition quality
If I understand you right you are searching something to record your output better than the implemented function of Resolume does that?!
If yes... I would recommend you to try the Open Broadcaster: https://obsproject.com/
You can record with a higher bitrate if you have a good performing system.
Best wishes

I use a different approach when I want to record my output in HD and with Arena 5's support of capture cards for output, it's become even easier because you can bypass the GPU altogether.
What you need is 1 HDMI capture card and 1 HDMI output or 2 HD-SDI capture cards or 1 duplex capture card.
Here is the workflow: Let's say you're on a PC rig and you've got a Blackmagic Design Decklink Duo PCIe card (equivalent to 2 HD-SDI capture cards) then what you do is you setup a screen in Arena 5's advanced output to ouput to Decklink 1 in HD, connect the output of Decklink 1 to the input of Decklink 2, and use Blackmagic Media Express to record the output.
Note that you should also be able to do the same in 4K resolution using 4K cards.

Re: improving upon recorded composition quality
Yeah, having an external recorder is the way to go for highest quality, but I really want to find a suitable portable solution as a lot of times I am creating content whilst traveling between places.
I am going to try Cosmowes suggestion. meantime keep the tips coming, these are both very useful!
Thanks

Just tested Open Broadcaster Software (free on Github) on a Macbook Pro using Syphon for video and Soundflower for audio and it seems to work great. The best thing is that you can record any size comp!
Cosmowe, thanks for the tip!

You can use spout to record in processing too.
Use the default spout receiver processing sketch and add saveFrame("outputFolder/movieName-####.tif") to the draw function. Then you can take the image sequence and create movies in any format/framerate you want.
you can use PNG and JPG too
