Two GPUs half Framerate

Post by VJSAW »

Hello,
I recognize if I use my second GPU (both Nvidea GTX880m) "Resolume" (R4 / R5) framerate drops to the half.

So when I use one GPU 1 have 60fps and when I plug in the second the framerates drops to 30fps. But why?
Isnt resolume using each GPU individually?

thx

A lot of people think that sticking two GPUs into a machine makes things twice as fast. It's a logical conclusion, because that's how it works with people right?

Unfortunately, when using computers, things are always different. It's actually a lot more work to figure out what each GPU would need to do. Then swapping the data back and forth takes would take way more time than to just let one GPU do everything. So that's what we do.

Things go slower than with a single card, because to get the output on the second card, we need to copy over the finished result from the first card to the second and this takes a performance hit.

There is a way to let two GPUs work as one, namely to put them in Crossfire/SLI mode. But you lose the second set of outputs in Crossfire/SLI, which makes it pretty pointless for use with Resolume.

No I thought to keep the same speed...not getting half as fast ;)

No, its not pointless to me. Usually I only need one output . And to have this 2xfaster is agreat thing! Ill try it out next job. For any reason I thought Resolume doesnt support SLI..
