NEWEST UPDATE: 4.0.3 Still does not work. Arena 4 still works perfectly on this computer.
heres the beginning to end sequence to the crash.
New composition
Add source (for this test, "solid color" from built-in resolume content)
output>advanced
create complex mask over solid color
start detailing the arrangement of the mask
mask freezes but I can still move and edit points, the mask itself is not moving.
save and close advance mapping editor (in attempt to go back in and unfreeze mask tool)
arena quits unexpectedly
I've tried this with multiple sources
I'll list my computer specs below. I know it is not a super video computer, but please understand i have used this computer and Arena 4 on MANY large professional gigs and have not experienced any of these issues. I actually ended up having to use Arena 4 on this project last minute to get the job done.
Computer specs:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel Iris 1536 MB

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
Sorry buddy. Resolume really needs a dedicated graphic cardIntel Iris 1536 MB

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
I have no problems with Resolume 5 and HD 4400, on Win 10.
But I don't tested on real display with integrated card, because always use dedicated one.

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
I'm just curious about what kind of large professional gigs you've been able to use this computer that has only an integrated GPU. Can describe the kind of compositions you're working with?Huddc wrote:but please understand i have used this computer and Arena 4 on MANY large professional gigs and have not experienced any of these issues.
I'm not sure I understand your post. You either have just the integrated GPU or the combo integrated/dedicated GPU and unless you force your computer to be on the integrated GPU it will switch to the dedicated one when you use software such as Resolume. On a mac, Resolume is considered high dependencies so you can't force your MBP to be on the integrated GPU.elgarf wrote:I have no problems with Resolume 5 and HD 4400, on Win 10.

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
The main problem is that integrated GPUs don't always support all the OpenGl extensions that Resolume depends on. So even though the majority of the app will function fine, you can run into unexpected problems, especially when using the advanced output. If you're just running a few layers of SD fullscreen to your second output, a 13" MBP or PC with a HD4400 are very capable of doing a good show.
Depending on the driver set, your mileage may even vary considerably. Especially on OSX, where driver updates are a fixed part of the OS update, updating your OS can break stuff that worked before, or fix things that were broken before. Maintaining this is impossible for us.
The only way to really be sure that you can enjoy all the new features of the advanced output, is to have a dedicated GPU.

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
Having said that, it sucks that it crashes and that shouldn't be the case.
The annoying thing is that we'd have to purchase a laptop that we don't support, just to use it once, to prevent something from working on it.

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
Hey guys. Thanks for the responses. I will admit I do not use resolume like most. I am not a VJ, or a DJ. I look at resolume as a tool to enhance our corporate communication designs.
Our typical gigs are catering to national acts that come through the casino and large venue circuit in our region, but we really excell and champion the "one off, unique corporate show". We own everything it takes to accommodate a very large production. We recently bought two DP Titan quad 20k's to add to our inventory. Me being more excited than the some of my co-owners, because of my love affair with mapping and my plans to use them.
Over the past couple of years I have slowly been working my way into mapping. My background is video production and design, so it was a pretty natural progression.
Using resolume arena 4 and the very mbp I listed above, I have mapped on many (I knew capitalizing that was going to get people going, I apologize) many high profile, very expensive productions. Only now, do I understand my computer is the wrong tool. Please understand, I wouldn't have known any better prior to arena 5 and this posting, since I have used the computer and arena 4 strenuously over the past year with very few issues. Never during a production thankfully.
As many of you did, I purchased the upgrade, as I was ecstatic about the new features. Shamefully, i will admit, this is my first time posting to the board and I'm guilty of not reading and following the board as much as I should have in the past, even though Joris registered me to the board last March when I provided him the secret formula to Coca-Cola.
Here's the most recent corporate concept proposal I did using Arena 4 and the mbp. (Had to remove link to appease the "Whoa buddy, you aren't allowed to post url")
As you can see, lots of layers and rows in my composition. The size of this composition is is relatively mild in size to what i've done in the past for actual events.
Here is one that was very very simple, but adds depth to the show. (Had to remove link to appease the "Whoa buddy, you aren't allowed to post url")
The moon actually started as a sun and as the night progressed, it turned into a moon. I had a logo in the center of the sun/moon as well, but removed it for marketing purposes. The mountains were back lit and mapped with custom content, as well as the space above the entire stage area.
I will do some research on computers with dedicated cards. In the meantime, anyone have experiences with an external card that has been used successfully?
Joris, always thankful for your passion and dedication to Resolume. Thank you for the great responses. Cheers.

I have integrated/dedicated GPU and always use dedicated GPU, but force resolume to use integrated one to test issue. Just doesn't have external monitor to test with connected output.Oaktown wrote:You either have just the integrated GPU or the combo integrated/dedicated GPU and unless you force your computer to be on the integrated GPU it will switch to the dedicated one when you use software such as Resolume.
Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
Yesterday made mapping on a car with Mac Book Pro 13", late 2013 with integrated Iris graphics. There was about 12 polygon slices, and one mask. Resolume crashes when I worked with that mask (about 5-6 points) every time.
So, I adjusted mask between Resolume crashes, by moving points by 5-10 pixels at one time
There was about 10-15 crashes, only when I touched the mask.

Re: Masking in advance output crashes arena
Correct. Every time. I don't understand why this seems to be such an issues. I NEVER had this issue with Resolume Arena 4. It ONLY started happening with Arena 5.
