Universe 0 is Subnet 0 Universe 0
....
Universe 15 is Subnet 0 Universe 15
Universe 16 is Subnet 1 Universe 0
Universe 17 is Subnet 1 Universe 1
etc...

I wish I could travel back in time and 'talk' to the person who decided it was a good idea to start counting universes at 0.

Thanks Joris for catching my stupid mistake!

To add to this addressing thread, this is all assuming we are in Artnet 2 which give us 256 universes but in Artnet 3 which gives us 32,768 universes, we'd have to add the Net which gives us 128 options from Net 0 to Net 127 so Universe 1 would be Net 0, Subnet 0, Universe 1

So Artnet 2 is 256 universes (2^8 ) with Subnet (2^4) x Universe (2^4) and Artnet 3 is 32,768 universes (2^15) with Net (2^7) x Subnet (2^4) x Universe (2^4).

The 32,768 may seem like a lot but to put things in perspective, a 1920x1080 screen would require 12,198 DMX universes to control every RGB pixel if we assume each universe can address 170 RGB pixels.

It's not stupid. Starting to count at 0 is stupid. You'll notice I had to edit my edit as well, because I didn't get it right in one go either :)

Nobody controls screens of those resolutions via DMX. LED screens of anything over 300x300 are usually controlled via processor that just take a corner of a regular 1024x768 DVI signal.

DMX output is meant for pixeltape and LED tubes. Stringing them together and expecting to play highres video over them is not the way forward.

I know, that's why I said "...to put things in perspective"
