MIDI dropouts

Post by dirtyjohn_lv »

I've had this happen with several different controllers since switch to v5. Happens on Windows 7 and 10.

Everything almost always boot up fine, midi controller responds at start up, but will stop working after a couple of hours
At first it was happening on Windows 7 with a Novation LaunchControl XL so I switch to the regular LaunchControl for a bit with the same results.

Switch to Windows 10 and have tried the Novation controllers as well as a Xone K2 with the same results.

In Windows 7 I would have to shut down Arena, unplug controller, plug it back in and restart Arena for it to come back.
In Windows 10, I disconnect and reconnect controller then go to MIDI preferences and redo the checkboxes there.

I think your USB port very temporarily loses connection. Arena 4 doesn't care too much about that, and just picks up where it left off when the controller connects again.

On Arena 5, we tried to be smarter with detection of USB devices, so you don't have to restart when you add a capture card for instance. Instead of helping, apparently we just made it worse and this causes hangs and all sorts of undesired behaviour when connecting and disconnecting USB devices.

The upcoming 5.0.2 release has a lot of USB related fixes. So I'd be very interested to hear if the problem persists after you update.

Could it have something to do with the "USB selective suspend setting" being enabled in the power options? I can't remember if I turned that off (I normally do).

Good to hear about the update, I will definitely let you know.

I've been having trouble with this with my Launchcontrol xl from when i started using Resolume. Since Arena 6. No update has fixed it for me yet. Every time Resolume loses my controller i have to unplug it and plug it back in. Sometimes a few times plus refreshing midi before it sees it again. Still hoping this will be fixed with an update sometine. Sometimes Resolume aldo freezes until i unplug my controller
