Could this setup be enough for a permanent installation?

Post by ericpc »

Hey guyz, my question looks simple and I guess the answer will be more complex than no! ;)

CONTEXT
We will be video mapping 4 sculptures with triangle shapes oriented differently in the 3D.
1. The biggest requires 4 projos
2. The medium one requires 2 projos
3. Two smaller sculptures require 2 projos (1 projo each)
TOTAL: 8 projos

All 8 splited over two PCs : 1 for the biggest sculpture (4 projos) and 1 for the 3 remaining sculptures (2 + 1 + 1 projos).

SPECS OF PC
I built this PC with the hardware herunder. It's planned to build a second one with similar specs. Should we be good? Note that this is our first installation of this kind and we'd like to be sure before going ahead.
  • 4 x Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5” SATA 3 Solid State Drive (SSD) (RAID 0+1)
  • 1 x Intel Core i7 4790K Unlocked Quad Core HT 4GHZ/4.4GHZ Processor LGA1150 Haswell 8MB Cache
  • 1 x HyperX Savage 32GB 4X8GB Kit DDR3-1600 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP Quad Channel Memory
  • 2 x GeForce GTX 750ti
  • 1 x ASUS Z97-A ATX LGA1150 DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI CrossFireX/SLI SATA3
  • Running on Windows 10 Pro 64Bit
Or should I go with some Radeon Eyefinity 6 (HD 7750 or similar) instead of two GTX 750ti.

The machine is way stronger than the required specs but this installation should be up for 5 years, up to 10. So I wanted to make sure all will run smoothly in the coming years even with upgrades (maybe 4k in the future?).

There will be one layer per projo. We don't need layer blending and such, mostly mapping and slicing.

Thanks for you input!

Hi!

It seems no one has a clue?

I'm mostly asking if I can't safely use an AMD Radeon Eyefinity 6 to drive my projectors.

Thanks!

I'm using a Radeon eyed unity 6 on a project permanent install and all seems good so far but I am literally 2 weeks into testing.

I didn't consider a channel as a monitor so I need an additional output

I would personally choose Nvidia over AMD cards any day but the limitation is that they don't do six outputs like the AMD cards.

I actually swapped to Nvidia. Less issue with drivers and that Radeon is so incosistant. I purchased 3 and 2 just don't work.

While the larger Nvidia cards don't have 6 direct outputs the Dvi and DisplayPort options can split on most cards.

A card with 2 dvi out can power 4 non mirrored outputs. The right motherboard can support 2 of these cards for 8 outputs

If you can swing the price get a 1080 for display port. Sli doesn't work with resolume that's another reason to go for a 1080. 2 cards in general actually performs worse then 1 card and has been verified by support. AMD kinda is on it's butt atm.
