No Picture at Output/Preview Monitor, transparent

Post by stefan.thoenes »

Hi together,

we're using Resolume 5.0.1. We have no picture a the preview Monitor and the Output Monitor in the software window. It shows sometimes the Desktop lying behind the software window or it is only black. We had the same error in Resolume 4 sometimes.

The outputs over HDMI, DVI and SDI are working normally.

After a call to the Resolume-Support I deactivated Windows Aero Desktop Theme, but this doesn't help. Same problem here.

Some information about the used PC:
AMD FX9370 Processor
16GB RAM
AMD Radeon R9 200 graphics card
Blackmagic DeckLink Duo 4K pro
Blackmagic MiniRecorder HDMI/SDI
Windows 7 Professional 64bit

If you know the problem or can give me some hints what I can try to solve this, i would be happy to hear from you :-)

Thanks
Best regards

A few questions:
Have you tried uninstalling all your versions of Arena and doing a clean install of the newest version?
Are you running the newest driver for your R9 200 GPU?
Are you currently outputting your UI from a MiniDP port with an HDMI adapter and is it active or passive?
Have you tried the UI on a different monitor and/or different output?

Hi,
I have completely reinstalled the system with the newest drivers and actual Resolume version.
UI output monitor is connected to the first DVI-output on the R9.
I tried it on the HDMI output, but same problem.
Thanks

Do have an Nvidia GPU laying around that you could test with?

What's your motherboard?

Alright so the fix here was reinstalling 3d card drivers via NVidia program "NVidia Geforce Experience"

Don't use 3rd party HDMI switchers. Using one threw my graphics card off and made life harder than it needed to be. GL

I had the same problem
solution : when you open output configuration create a new screen with output first screen(computer screen) then hit escape and define output of that screen as virtual device. That solved the problem. I have to do it each time i run resolume. Sometimes it also hapens if you move the output configuration screen too much.
that solves too the problem that slices don't appear even if slices output is working.

Hi!

We still have this problem, can be solved with this "new screen on display 1 then delete" thing, but still an ugly bug. And it comes back when I open the advanced sreen setup again, or pressing alt+tab.
Full reinstall of the system, deleting config.xml didn't help. In arena 4 it's the same.

Win 7
AMD W7000
intel core-i7
MSI MS-7751 motherboard

Thx a lot and best regards

I had this problem with AMD Firepro W7100 (which for just about everything else, including running 5-6 layers on an 8K canvas for hours on end in professional/corporate settings at a consisten 59-60fps, works beautifully) and posted about it before in a thread on AMD issues.

I can confirm, the delete trick/fiddling in Adv Output does solve it temporarily. And I tried everything mentioned: ensuring drivers and software was up-to-date, reinstalling, disabling Arro, and going thru every single setting in the AMD control center. BUT—hopefully it also leads our brilliant Resolume devs to discover what is happening. Because if they could fix this bug I would have A LOT more faith in working with AMD cards, and thus, Mac machines.

That is all. +1 for fixing this, but we've all been told it's most likely something AMD has to work on with their drivers.

The preview monitor is being painted on transparent black ( because, well, there is nothing there in the beginning, so it's transparent ).

Some AMD drivers on Windows take this literally and then paint the entire preview window transparent. We're not quite sure what would make them behave this way. In the past, fiddling with Aero's transparency settings seems to have helped. This would force fancy things like the transparent menu bar on Windows to become opaque, and also make the output preview opaque in the process.

This only happens on Windows btw. The AMD drivers in Mac machines are completely different and do not have this problem.
