Ableton/Resolume integration

Post by insch »

I am a composer and film-maker. I am very new to Resolume and pretty new to Ableton Live but have been working with the latter for around a month in preparation for some live work later in the year. I am looking to integrate my video work into these performances. For this I am exploring Resolume.

First I’d like a very straightforward set-up where each Live scene change triggers a different clip in Resolume. Then when I have that implemented I’ll look at image manipulations from Live. One stage at a time though. I have downloaded Arttech's M4L patches but they didn’t come with a pdf and I can’t find one so I’m a little lost as to how to get them to link Ableton scene changes to Resolume clip changes. But it sounds like I might have more flexible control of Resolume directly via MIDI in Ableton anyway.

I have video footage in 4K and HD so have some flexibility on resolution. I’m not sure yet but I might be working across two MacBook Pros with one for audio and one for video. At this stage though I am working on one Mac.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thank you

I use resolume with ableton via midi on one computer reliably on both mac and pc.
I usually trigger clips and columns with notes and, do manipulations with midi control envelopes from ableton.

If you want to do networked midi that's also pretty easy on a mac, with a networked midi session.
On a pc this requires additional software, like rtpMidi and loopMidi, where rtpMidi is compatible with the mac's networked midi, so you could have a setup from a mac to a pc.

Hello

I cant seem to find a good step by step guide for a Windows & Loopmidi setup for this.
I'm stuck at getting resolume to work with all my midi controllers to trigger clips, but cant get a midi track from my daw (ableton and studio one) to get to talk to Resolume via loopmidi.

Can someone please take screenshots of their midi settings page in ableton, resolume and midiloop and mention any other settings that need to be done?

Thanks all!!

Do you know about the Max4Live patches? http://resolume.com/blog/8717/max-for-l ... me-patches

If you'd prefer midi,
Start the Loopmidi device,
Make sure to enable midi output to the Loopmidi device in the Ableton preferences.
Then set the output of your midi track to the Loopmidi device on the midi channel.
Now go to Resolume, and enable the Loopmidi as input, and only as input.
Open up the midi inspector in Resolume with the small play button in the Resolume midi preferences
When you play your midi clip in Ableton, you should see the notes coming in in the Inspector.
When you do, you can start mapping your midi shortcuts in Resolume: https://resolume.com/support/en/midi-shortcuts
After all is set, exit midi mapping and play your midi clip. Resolume should follow.
