About Matrox GXMs

On the Matrox website it says you can only run a maximum of 2 GXMs (DualHead2go or triplehead2go) at once on one computer. What is the reason behind this? Is this just a limitation of their drivers / desktop software? If it is just their desktop software, I assume you could run more than 2 by just not connecting the GXM's usb cable to the computer but instead to a usb power supply. You just wouldnt be able to configure them with them all plugged in.
