random lagging during video playback

Post by labridis »

Hi, need some help with the following.
I am having a video installation project for a museum. There are 4 projectors attached on the system, 2 for each graphics card.
There is a random lagging during playback. The fps monitor is always on 59-60 fps. I don't understand what is causing this. No audio on the video.

Video file:
DXV 3 HQ
(resolution 6480*1080, 50GB, 22min)

Hardware:
Motherboard: ASUS H170-PRO
Processor: INTEL Core i7 6700
RAM: KINGSTON HYPERX FURY 16GB DDR4-2400 (2x8GB)
Hard drive: SSD SAMSUNG 850 Evo 120GB

Video Cards:
(2) MSI GTX 980Ti GAMING 6G

Thanks in advance for any help,

Can you describe the lagging you're experiencing? Does it appear to play the video too slow or does it freeze on certain frames?

Thank you Oaktown for your reply,
It freezes on random frames during playback but it is very slight freeze.

Thanks again,

A few questions for you:
  • Is the lag the same on all projectors?
What's the FPS of your DXV3 movie?
    Are you using SMPTE timecode?

I am having the same or similar problems. Even when there are no outputs set I still get a freeze frame for about half a second every minute or two.

All Videos are DXV3
Arena 5.0.4

Mac Pro 2013 - 6 Core, Dual D500, 32GB Ram, OSX 10.11.5

Same thing on my 2013 rMBP.

Just jumping on the train here as im noticing lag in my videos as well (DXV3 HQ with alpha). FPS says its around 60, but compared to the video played in VLC or Quicktime i can see the video is laging (not freezing in my case)

The lagging usually happens when the footage is video shot by camera. At the end of my video all 4 projectors play video footage shot by cameras and not graphics. This is where usually the lagging takes place but not always. I see my gpu temperature and load and everything seems fine and my fps are always 59-60. What could be wrong because it is obvious that something is making arena to lag. Fps of the movie is 25 and no SMPTE.

All footage is DXV and no, there was no lagging when watching it in h264 codec with lower resolution since h264 can't hundle 6480*1080.

Thanks

Could it be the bandwidth from the SSD Hard drive? It is supposed to have a read speed of 540mb/s so it is quite impossible. The file is in High Quality and the size is 60GB. Do you think Oaktown that i should take it to Normal Quality? It is very strange because it is happening out of the blue for no obvious reason.

Are you playing your clip in Timeline or BPM Sync mode?

Timeline (no audio on the video, audio comes from max msp)
