Kinect V2 as webcam

Post by Sadler »

I have managed to get the Kinect V2 to work in Resolume as a colour camera with driver version 2.2.1608.2000 and using Kinect Cam V2.2. I'm still trying to figure out how to configure the size though. Right now it defaults to 320x240 with a cropped frame. The driver doesn't have options for the frame size (only mirroring and desktop) although these aren't accessible through Resolume setting button which does nothing. Another program for accessing the camera does the same (starts in cropped 320x240) but gives the option for changing the resolution and bit depth after starting - 1920x1080x32 gives an uncropped feed.

It's a shame but not a big deal for me. It's probably incomplete development and testing in the webcam driver but if anyone has further insight it would be appreciated.

I would try to get it working in Processing with SimpleOpenNi if it's compatible with V2, then you could syphon/spout the webcam or IR image to resolume.

I didn't deliberately do anything but I have now discovered that Kinect V2 works great, seemingly defaulting to the comp resolution when dragged from sources. I also tested that other apps can use the camera at the same time and they can.

Although I didn't do anything in particular to get this working several things have changed since my first post:
Win 10 Anniversary Update
Resolume from 5.0.4 -> 5.1.1
K-Lite Codec pack (for DXV thumbs on Win 10 - thanks!)

All of which could have changed things for the better, I guess. I'm guessing it was most likely the Anniversary update though because the camera works better in other apps too.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but can anyone using a Mac tell me what hardware adaptation you are using to get your Kinect V2 to talk to your Mac?

Thanks!
