Low frame rate

Post by Smudge »

Hi, iam running Avenue 4 on my 2011 MacBook Pro which surpasses the min recommendation for specs.
However after using the software for a few weeks now and have been wondering from the outset why the frame rate is so low. I am new to this and would appreciate any advice.

Does your MacBook Pro have an Intel integrated GPU only?

Are you encoding everything into DXV3 or just dragging random movies in?

More than likely that's the reason why you're getting such low frame rate.

Also, how much RAM do you have on your MacBook Pro and are you using other softwares concurrently?

how much is that low frame rate?
on an Intel hd 4000 you could expect 3-4 1920x1080 layers to run at 25-30fps.

you can get more fps by switching on the "disable global effects and blend modes" in Preferences/Video
or lowering the composition resolution,
or playing fewer layers.
or as mentioned encoding your footage to DXV.
Also needed could be to set the audio buffer size to a higher value, if the sound crackles or you head dropouts.

Hi ,Thanks for that advice the DXV3 videos do work a lot better as you suggested,I've taken to converting everything in MPEG STREAMCLIP .My MacBook has 8gb ram in answer to your question,is that significant? I'm aware I am coming over as an annoying novice but I have purchased this for educational (and recreational)purposes as I work in a Secondary School here in UK and want to use this to enhance our Technical Theatre curriculum . If this laptop isn't up to it I shall try it out on the mac desk top we have at school ,will check the specs on Monday. Thanks again.
BTW am greatly enjoying the potential for creativity that Resolume has, just need to get my head round it then get the kids into it !
