Soft Edge Bug/Problems with Blending

Hello,

I am looking for some help in understanding what might be going wrong or if the soft edge has a bug. I spent several hours at a temporary install trying to blend two projectors for a church show with a giant screen backdrop. I don't know if I have been going about this wrong or something is making this harder then it should be. I am running two separate screens off a GTX1080. I am running my composition in 3840x1080. I align both slices and link them together and set a 10-15% overlay. After that I turn on soft edge and I notice that at times my preview will black out. Other times the rendering will not show the soft edge preview. After playing with it over and over I start playing around with the settings and I am unable to complete a perfect blend. I almost feel like the edges are backwards when rendering and the fades should be reversed. Are there ways to control what edge I am blending because at times I see it disappear and it doesn't come back until toggling the button several times?

I am hoping to get some insight as the correct way to make this happen. I have done this with several other programs and I find it odd that it's taking so long. I have watched all the videos and still I can't make sense why this is so difficult.

It sounds like the overlaps are not correctly defined. Could you post your Advanced Output preset file, please?

I am running my composition in 3840x1080. I align both slices and link them together and set a 10-15% overlay.
As a note, if your composition is 3840x1080 with a 10-15% blend and you use HD projectors, you will have 10-15% of your image that is not used.

As always, I find that math will be your best friend when you plan your work so why don't you start with the size of your screen and calculate the actual size of composition and blend area based on the projectors you're using rather than guesstimating the blend area.

For instance. if you screen is 30mx10m and you use 2 HD projectors, your comp should be 3240x1080 with a 600 pixel blend area. Knowing this information will make your work much easier and faster when you're lining up your projectors in the space because you can put spike marks on where things should be knowing that 1M=108 pixels

You could still use your 3840x1080 artwork but know that you will lose 600 pixels in your final output which is likely to be split equally between left and right.
