Isolating mappings to a clip?

Post by measuredincm »

Hey there,

I'm having some trouble getting my mapping figured out...

So, I have some touch pads/buttons I want to use to control effects. Mapping the buttons to the Dashboard knobs (by setting those mappings to Layer) works fine.
However, say I've got one clip where I have a few timeline effects, and I map a button to the Left arrow. Then in another clip in the same layer, the mapping has carried over from my first clip. But, say on this second clip, I want to do something else (ex. have another button control this effect, or maybe have the same button activate the Right arrow instead).

It seems like the MIDI mappings are intertwined, which is preventing me from having control over MIDI at the clip level.

I thought I could fix this by moving the two clips to separate layers, but their mappings are still intertwined.

Any ideas?

Thx,
Marten

Read this section in the manual and look at layer vs deck focus.

Yeah, I mean, I think that section describes the problem I'm facing:
An exception is made for mappings applied to the Clip tab. These are always context dependent. This means that the same keys will control the same functions on all clips, regardless of whether they were mapped in Deck or Layer focus.
So the problem I'm having is, I want to isolate my mappings to a single clip. It sounds like it's impossible to do so.

This is one of the use cases that Composition Mapping is designed for. On Composition Mapping, every shortcut is direct, ie tied to the particular clip, effect or layer.

Heh, oh dear... I figured it out.
Composition Mapping indeed!
I thought Deck and Layer were my only options... now I feel dumb.
Thanks for the comments.
