Whate are a VJ\'s earnings per hour

Post by Anonymous »

Let say you are really good, and everyone looking voor good vj's wants you. The Question is:

how many $ per hour do you ask?

if I may ask :)

it's not an easy question for us, to determine what is a reasonable earnings

and for work like making an audiovisual demo for a gig, how would you make a price for that?

depends

Post by SuperficiaL »

depends on all sorts of things...
like how far away it is
how much of your rig do you have to bring with you
how many pre work does it take
size and capacity of the venue
budget of the one who is organising the happening
if they are taping it
how much pleasure u have doing it
how badly they want U

and i could go on for a couple of hours ;)
but in the end its all about not being too expensive in your own neighbourhood (depends on what other people ask) and not making yourself too cheap so people wont take u seriously...

so who is the first to post here what he earned on his last gig?

we all know the factors that influence the price but we all want to hear figures really, don,t we?

yes this is partially true but i think the market is more on an influence on what you can ask. If you think you,re worth 8000 Euro but a promotor can get a good vj for 100 you're not likely to get any work at all. i,m using some extreme figures here to emphasize my example ;-)

the same is true for the resolume price, if we would ask 400 euro for 1 computer you,d all be using some other software.

i think this is an interesting/important topic because i see to many vj,s work for free or get paid only 50 or 100 euro for a whole night of hard work!

i do live visuals for a band, thats 30 for an hours work, though i am there before and after that, so normaly from around 8:30 -11:30

when i do it at a friends club, its 150 for the night, 8:00 - 3:30ish

i charge what i do cause thats all i can get at this stage, when i get better, and the places im doing them/band gets bigger, i will get more.

Ok, let´s get it serious.

For club gigs you can get around 150€
overhere at Helsinki.

It means playing from ca.21.00-03.30

We have quite strict policy for opening
times, so every club is supposed to
close at least at 04.00. at night.
(Sometimes this sucks, when it´s nice party)

But when you make many gigs at months,
it´s good choice to get home.

hehe i know what you mean. Of course there's been times promoters have said NO to me. Too expensive... in which case I'm relieved to be able to rest and do NOTHING before i'm back at work Monday :) ... very refreshed mind you !

Totally depends on the gig. I'll do a rave for $100 - $200 usd.

If it involves cameras and more production, it raises. I charged $700 for the crystal method show.

club/rave: $100-$200
concert/festival: $200-$400
large concert/large venue: $400-$1000

all us dollars
