4 outputs how the hell!

Hi!

Can someone explain me?------->

IÂ´d like to konw how can you actually get 4 outputs from one computer.

can you plug more than 1 graphic card to a single computer?

Can Resolume output via Firewire? is it reliable?

4 outputs can be realized in different ways.

1- multiple cards
one agp and one or more pci(x) cards.
2- a quadhead matrox card or any other card that supports more outputs.

output through firewire is not possible.

we had a test setup with an ati dual head agp card and an ati pci(express) dual head card.

Could you explain me briefly whatÂ´s the difference between AGP and PCI express cards?
I suppose the main difference is where you plug them....

PCI Express allows a datastream of up to 4 GB/s (compared to 2.1 GB/s for AGP8X). This also gives the possibilty (as developed fully by ATI and Pinnacle) to edit HDTV (higher resolution, sharper image, more data to be transfered) with up to four layers of video. I just bought a new laptop

with an ATI PCI Express 128 MB video card and things seem to be running very smooth. I suspect the "PCI Express" helps quite alot for resolume, though I'm not entirely sure.

Resolume is known to be limited (in the first place) by Hard Drive speed, which has to do with (the speed of) datastreams. So I'm thinking: New videocard with better datastream bandwith equals better performace in resolume?

Does anyone have an idea. Bart and Edwin...?

the video card doesn't really make a difference in resolume, as it's not using the onboard card processors to do anything with the video - it's all done by your cpu. There have been many posts explaining why this is and how it all works. Any video card with dual heads (2 monitor outs, or monitor out and video out) will work fine with resolume. PCI Express kicks ass in the gaming, 3d rendering, and video editing world - but won't matter for resolume. The reason it was brought up above was the some boards can have multiple pci-express slots, where no board has more than 1 agp. Standard pci video cards work fine too, even in conjunction with an agp card - you just have to get all your settings right.

One other thing - if all four of your outputs are going to be the same thing, just get a video splitter box. I have a very nice one that takes in either s-video or rca and splits it 8 ways. it will even convert the svideo to rca or vice versa in the splitting. Works great - got it at radio shack (I think you call them Tandy in europe - been a long time since i was over there though)
