New Nightclub Led tape to roof HELP

Post by liam gillespie »

I'm new to this led mapping I'm wanting to run led strips on the roof but don't know what to get club opens in June

we looking to run something similar to the Hydra setup and with Resolume as i will be driving video content video walls
https://vimeo.com/161562548

But only down side is the roof in the club is very low so can't use DMX led bars so led tape is required
i need to know what to buy as in dmx box and led strips converters e.c.t

thanks

We really like these little boxes: http://digidot.eu/

Up to 12 universes/2000 pixels on a single box. Supports pretty much every type of strip on the market. Easy setup and testing via a web UI. Runs on Art-Net, so Resolume picks them up automatically.

They can even advise you on what strips to use and how to rig the whole thing.

it seems like a nice interface!

Is there any way in Resolume to handle the RGB pixels (such as #171, 342, etc..) which would fall between two lumiverse?

A DMX universe is fixed to 512 channels. It's up to the SPI decoder to decide how 2 or more universes are distributed over the physical pixel strip.

In most cases, it's best to just keep it simple and make a fixture that fills up a single Lumiverse to 510 and then continue with another fixture in the next Lumiverse.

If you really need this kind of control, The Digidot gives you mad options for it:

But in the case of RGB pixel strips, that requires to split the strip every 170 pixels to inject a different DMX universe.

On the Digidot, "Every output can drive up to 510 pixels", which requires to 3 DMX universe, so how does it handle the DMX signal distribution? Is it able to take three Lumiverses with 510 DMX channels and handle a continuous strip of 510 pixels (1530 DMX channels)? Do you have to route the Artnet to their control interface?

Which is exactly why it's the task of the SPI decoder to decide how to distribute more than one universe over a single strip. We can do this in all sorts of ways, but all of that is pointless if the SPI decoder doesn't support it.

As you can see in the screenshot, the Digidot let's you spread several universes to a single strip and even define their end and start channels.

Thank you Joris. Now I understand why Digidot seems to be a great and affordable solution to pixel map with Arena.

I don't believe they have a distributor in the US yet :(
