indeo511 codec options !Scalability! & keyframing

Post by Ruud »

Quote from Ligos Indeo 5.11 help file about option:

Scalability

"When scalability is enabled, Indeo video compresses video in a manner that allows playback visual quality to vary automatically, based on the available processing power of the playback system. If processing power is inadequate, the codec degrades visual quality incrementally rather than dropping frames. This avoids jerky video playback.
To enable scalability, check the Scalability box in the Encoder Controls area."

Anyone uses this option? I think it is much better to drop a little bit of overall image quality when using all 3 layers, rather than lower frameraters...

And another thing, i've been coding all my video on 400 x 300 25fps and keyframe every 15 frames

it is much better to keyframe every 1 frame isn't it? (indeo511)

much smoother display...

than another option: Quick Compress, said to be less in image quality and a less stable data rate, anyone good experience with this option??

I think it could tune up performance a little to mention these options too..

problem is:

I have al my footage @indeo511 with keyframe every 15 frames

because when I use keyframe every 1 frame the video file always makes resolume crash, not only resolume, also media player & winamp..

I have somehow coded some clips few weeks ago with the keyframe every 1 frame and they do work! I don't know why they work I had to be lucky that day ...

I experience better, smoother playback with those 'keyframe every 1 frame' versions of video samples (3 layers = higher framerates)

So what could it be I do wrong? Somebody help me out please.

And also a little 'vague' .. Premiere always automaticly sets the keyframing back to every 15 frames ...

:( i don't get it!
