Looking for overall computer recommendation

Post by beardy »

Hello,

I've been asked to set up a resolume server for a bar my friend owns. I've seen the docs for video card recommendations, but I haven't seen anything about overall computer recommendations.

Do most people just build their own computer for this? Is there a "build to order" company that puts together computers for resolume? What are the recommended specs?

What about the videos ? My friend would like to just have all the videos on an external hard drive .... would that work?

Hey there...
for the overall performance I would recommend you to have a look at this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11093&hilit=benchmark

Clips on external harddrive ...yes that works. I would recommend using an external SSD drive with a minimum USB 3.0 connection to get rid of datatransfer bottlenecks.

Best wishes

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Are there any companies out there that sell and support Resolume ready PCs?

I'm hesitant to build this thing myself, because then I'll end up supporting it.

What is your budget and how many in's, out's, and layers to be played at each time do you need?

Rackmount or laptop?

Sounds like his budget is around $2000.

He says he has 4 TVs and 1 projector he wants to power, so I'm guessing a laptop option is out.

As far as layers go, for starters, he just wants to play videos, so there won't be any layers, just the main video (I tried to convince him to something like plex would be cheaper for that! ) but he eventually wants to use the same system for DJing (VJing?) so it would need to be able to do some amount of layers, I suppose.

Are all of his TV's and Projector sharing the same content, or will each device have it's own separate content?
Will any of the devices be used in a collage to build 1 large screen?

If they are all mirrored, I would get as laptop and a small HDMI or SDI matrix.

He does want the option to play different content on each TV, but no collages.

He'll need 2 GPU's if he needs 5 outputs plus a GUI.

If they don't need to be in sync, I'd go with a GTX-10 series and a black magic SDI card.

If you're located in the US, we can build a media server for you based on your needs. Send me a PM if that's of interest to you.
