Midi Controller - Other notes ? + 2 Bugs ?

Post by Conrad.B.Hart »

1. Midi - Other Notes stuff -

I just bought a Behringer 'B-Control Rotary' USB midi controller. (150 euro, very nice ;)
I can assign all faders to my midiwheels but the other notes/ keystrokes like Darken/Ilk/Brighten/Lk etc. wont work.
Resolume also wont recognize the buttons, only the wheels of usb midi controller.

2. BUG: SLider Alpha wont move with midi-slider.

In resolume 2.0 The Alpha/opacity slider parameter does not move in Active Effect in channel/layer, first I thought that it didnt work at all but it seems to work fine. Only the slider doesn't move when I move my midi-controller.
(The Alpha/ Opacity slider in the 3 Effect Slots works properly.)

2. Word error? In Effect in current Channel

The word 'Variables' is broken it says 'Var ables'
Other thing is that the Channel thumbnails of my Webcam are empty? In resolume 1 I could see the thumb properly.

Suggestions? Thanks ;)

Hi Conrad,
thanx for your bug report, the alpha slider and the broken words thing are known problems.
Your behringer might not be sending real note messages, look in the manual to set it up, if resolume receives control messages it should receive note messages as well.. only if resolume did not react at all i would say it was a software error. Some midi devices have to be configured first to fit your needs, We have a novation remote 25 and we had to make sure that the mid keys were sending correct signals.

The thumbnail thing, if you use a live camera the images will allways be different from the first frame we grab. So generating a thumbnail for a live feed doesn't allways make sense, that's why we just put the name of the device in the channel.

cheers

Keystrokes work now + Livefeed preview

Post by Conrad.B.Hart »

1. Keystrokes ----Yeah it works now -
downloaded a very simple program - But it would be better if Resolume 2 finds it itself but ok, fine enough ;)

Bome's midi translator - (free
(easier than the one that came with my Behringer B-control Rotary)
http://bome.com/midi/translator/

(Tom said it on this forum, great now I can use the keystrokes Thnx Tom tnx Edwin :P)
--------------------------------------
2. Live feed preview:

Ok I understand why it is sometimes not neccesary to see a preview from livefeed.

But in a few Freeframe effects it says the words 'LiveFeed' just in the output screen if I change the effect values or load the current effect.
(This is just a fraction of a second, though irritating ;)

I know this is caused by the programmed Freeframe, not due Resolume. But in Resolume 1 it wil show the first captured frame instead of the text. This is much better. Why not use a thumbnail?
Isn't it possible to keep the text away?

For example you could choose for just the first captured frame. (instead of a changing/up to date thumb.)

Thank you! - ga zo door!

Hi!, I had the same problem (resolume don't regonize buttons commands) with my KORG MicroKontrol, but I solve this issue changuing the commands in MicroKontrol.

Usually midi hardware is configurable, so you only must change the commands type in your hardware and resolume works with it.

Example:

State pads usually use RPN or NRPN commands so you must change them for NOTE commands (state commands or not) and use them with resolume.

I recomend you never use state commands, because them usually send 2 midi notes (0 for don't activate and 127 for activate state), but resolume only learn one of them, so when you press the button (127 command value) resolume makes the action assigment, but the other state (0 value) isn't regonized by resolume (testes in 1.51 and 2.0 beta)

Same at me with novation zero sl, have noprob to configure all faders, but there is strange behavior with buttons - i can assign them all, but only few of them works in main interface.

Whats the configuration in bome midi?

How do you configure buttons in template editor?

Im lost in all that channels, velocity and notes stuff.

Hi igraq,

We have the novation zero sl as well. But it's not that easy to reconfigure the buttons on the device.
Standard though the piano keys work but a lot of other buttons have to be reconfigured to send midi note commands. Check out it's manual, and i think they have a tool on their website wich you can download wich enables you to configure your controller through your p.c.

check out this link:

i know all that you said :( all buttons sending notes, tried hardware configuring and template editing by that utility too, nothing works.
The strange things:
1/i think its something wrong with that port usb a/b
2/some buttons works some of them no, even if have some port and velocity config, just changing number of note
3/what about velocity? i leave it at 0.
4/in the midi devices listing, i have it twice...
5/im using midi yoke too

Maybe better solution will be selling my remote sl and buy a sweet bitstream 3x :)
