4K Capture
I've been using the Blackmagic ultrastudio mini recorder for capturing 1080p for years through Thunderbolt. Now I need to capture 4k from a thermal camera to display on a huge 4k LED wall at CES. Anyone have recommendations on a stand alone box? NOT a card. Has to to come in via Thunderbolt or USB-C.

I'm using the Magewell 4k box and loving it! USB3

I bringing in 4K (3840x2160). USB3's 5Gb/s doesn't seem like it would NOT be fast enough.Arvol wrote:I'm using the Magewell 4k box and loving it! USB3

Look at AJA IO 4k series. There is thunderbolt 2/3 solutions, but price is x10 from price of mini recorder. I personally wait for Mini Recorder 4k with thunderbolt 3

IT's 6G not 12G so that helps.
I haven't had any issues in testing with it in the shop. I've only used 1080p during shows.
I did a timecode send at 4k from one laptop to this device, coming in to another laptop.
Seemed to work great in that application.
Are you needing 6G or 12G?
Are you needing HDMI or BNC capture?
The AJA stuff is:
4k over 4 3G SDI connections (IO 4k)
4k over a single SDI connection (IO 4k plus)
If you only need 6G the Magewell is where it's at, in price point.
For 12G, it looks like the IO 4k plus and the Black Magic Ultra Studio 4k Extreme (&3) are the only option I've seen atm.
