Should resolume send midi out signals?

Post by bart »

We can have resolume send out midi signals on various events (channel switching, layer opacity changes, etc) these signals can then be send to drive other applications or hardware so you can control your V4 mixer or Ableton live with midi signals from resolume.

Would you be interested in this feature? What would you use it for? Let us know!

this would be very nice. we could use encoders instead of potis. this is very good, if you change a clip with different speed. when u use potis, and get the new clip with another speed, and u turn the poti, it jumps hard to the presetof the knob. when we use encoders, the get the pref of the clip( perhaps speed or opacity) from res with the midi out signal and it will stop jumping.
i think, this is necessary for professional work.

well i recon any thing new in resolume is great :D at the moment i cant see it being useful for me, but i know that when it is there, i will use it. i know you are working on a new sequenced type caos mode, and with resolume sending midi data, it would be cool if resolume could record the data, and also play it back.

Im only assuming that midi out wuld also get rid of the jumps we experience when scratchng video. An idea wuld also be to have the clip change the direction of playing acrding to the midi info, for instance if i issue the playhead to go further 20 frames that wuld also mean that the clip shuld play forward while if i issue a command saying go back 20 frames the video shuld also change the direction of playing to backwards.

The option that is implemented now is far from useless, so i dont want to loose it, and maybe there are other options that im not thinking of right now.

i think it would be great, with stuff like the bcf2000 and bcr2000
i own a copy of resolume 1.5 and am thinking about upgradeing
for the audio input feature ancd more than one global effect
but i would really would like to have this in resolume,as i said in a
previous post ,not to many vj soft's have this,so it might be a nice
selling point along with all the other great stuff in the program.

i dont code(yet) so i dont know if doing this would be easy/hard/very time consuming or whatever, but i would even consider
buying this feature as a separate thing (think plug-in pack)
so that way if you need/want you can get.(just an idea)
including it in the program update would be better i suppose
thanks for your time.

i think midi can be configured and conected in a chain so that the same midi event that trigers a video sample also triggers and audio sample on another pc or sampling workstation..

so. i think that its not needed a midi out from resolume, because if you want to control things in resolume and another software at the same time i can all be done with midi externally.

adding midi out support would be usefull for people who don't use midi controllers.. and to use resolume as their midi controller for controlling other applications.

the more features the better, because vjs can choose what better suits them. for me personally it wouldnt be so usefull but it wont hurt to have another feature ;)

i personally think its priority to have an intuitive midi configuration while live, to assign controls in resolume to knobs, fabers and keys on your midi hardware, without taking too much time and distracting from the performance activitys.. only point click choose and voila, configured. (and to reassign while live.. because resolume has so many things to controll that you could need a very large midi controller, and i dont want to carry something like that to every gig)

Midi out from resolume would be great for people like me who are building custom midi controllers. For example midi out would give the proper feedback for motorized faders to adjust themselves to new clips - or i could design an LED EQ to externally see and control the resolume eq settings.

Midi out is the kind of feature that will enable us to find new uses for Resolume. other Midi out signals could be sent after a clip has finished playing and other evenets that could be timed/synced.

keep up the great work!

Sounds useful, may help with scratching on our DM2 if that can accept midi feedback, although our main wish is really for a bug-free, stable Resolume - which will be more difficult to achieve if new features keep being added while old problems still exist. My vote would be "sounds great - but not as a priority" kat =^..^=
