using layers in 6

hi, I'm new to resolume so I've only just started using 6. most of the layering tutorials are old and don't work. (mask overlay technique docoptics)I want to put a new video in the black background of a layer mask.... so on layer 1 I have metalive 1 and on layer 2 I have progressions 14 and layer 2 mode on one below.. now no matter what I try I can't figure out away to put visuals in the black background of that layer mask? can any one help me
