How do I transfer midi map between layers

Post by brodie »

On layer 1 I have some effects that I've linked to the dashboard. Is there an easy way to transfer all of that to layers 2, 3, etc? I want to avoid needing to bring in the effects for each layer, set the value ranges, link them to the dashboard, and midi map them identically.

You could use "Selected Layer" target for the dashboard Midi shortcuts.

If I understand "Selected Layer" correctly, that will remove the task of needing to map a dashboard dial to a midi knob for each layer. But I'll still need to go through the effort of recreating my Effects on each of the layers and linking them with the Dashboard dials on each layer, correct?

You can copy the effects by holding Control + drag on windows (Alt + drag on mac)
An you'll have to assign the dashboards on the new layer.

Or you can duplicate the layer keeping the dashboard assignments.

Eventually, we want to make this easier by offering multiselection of shortcuts, and editing their options in one place.

This is a bigger bees nest of possible instability than we can commit to right now though, so the workarounds suggested here are your best bet. Or you could bite down, turn the old brain off and mindlessly click the same sequence of buttons for an hour. It sucks, but you'd only have to do it once.

Thanks for the tips. That'll help me out in the future. For this round what I ended up doing was saving my Effects as a preset and then adding those manually to my other layers. It took a few minutes, but I got all of my tweaks for free which was going to be the big hassle. It had the added (and unexpected) benefit of also automagically linking the correct parameters to each Layers' Dashboard dial as well.
