Beginner question: controlling two Macs running Resolume via OSC

Post by langdon.alan »

I have Resolume running on two machines, both mac minis running Avenue 6.
This is a test, I am seeing if this is what my client needs: she wants to be able to synchronise 3 videos (3 displays) using both Macs. Someone suggested Avenue using OSC, but I have never done OSC.
Both computers are in network and seeing each other, I have set up the OSC preferences, but now what do I do? How can I trigger simultaneously 3 videos on two machines? 2 on one machine, 1 on another...
Any input much appreciated!

Failing to answer your original question, I have to ask can the three videos not be all played from the one Mac? Using a Datapath or triplehead on one output you could then have three perfectly synced videos.

I would suggest placing all the clips you want played at the same time in a column. Then repeat this step for each machine and have it where column 1 plays a "look", then column 2 plays a different "look".

So pc 1 could have 3 video's on column 1, pc 2 could have 1 video in column 1, and pc 3 could have 2 video's in column 1.

Column 2 could have 2 clips on pc 1, 2 clips on pc 2, and 1 clip on pc 3.

when you column trigger, it will play all the clips in the column.

at this point you just turn on the OSC In and Out and set your OSC out to broadcast on PC 1
In your OSC shortcuts, create a new preset. And click on the columns you wish to trigger. From there click on the OSC output and set the dropdown to a custom path and leave it set to it's default custom path.

Setup your OSC app to connect to PC 1 and whenever you trigger PC 1, PC 1 will also send out the trigger command to the other PC's

Hope this doesn't sound too confusing.

You can also set your OSC app (such as Zoltan's OSC Controller) to connect to multiple PCs simultaneously.

Also you could set up your two PCs to be in master/slave mode and trigger PC 2 by triggering PC 1 directly. All you would need to do is set the incoming port of PC 2 to be the same as outgoing port of PC 1 AND setup OSC messaging to output what you need (such as columns)
