SMPTE/playback issues

Post by spenceraford »

Hey all,

Sorry for the long post, but I can't find anything to fix my issue. I'm going to be very detailed about what I've tried to help narrow down my issue.

Here's the gear I'm using:
I'm running Resolume 6.1.1 on a MacBookPro running High Sierra 10.13.6. All videos are for sure at 29.97 fps and exported using the DXV codec. Resolume is receiving SMPTE using a Focusrite Scarlett18i20 interface. SMPTE is coming Ableton 10.0.3 from a 2008 MacBookPro running El Capitan 10.11.6. The SMPTE came from the El-Tee-See website. 29.97 fps, 8 bit, df.

My Process:
I can drop all of the videos (7 of them) into the same column. I setup the offset for the SMPTE to line the video up to play in sync with my reference track (and ultimately the band playing live) At all the points during the show the video is perfectly synced with the band.

My Problem:
I save the Resolume composition and quit the program after the show. The next day I open up all of the computers and set everything up exactly the same. When I start playback, the videos start, but ultimately play back at a slower rate. Example: A song that is 120bpm, the video is off by 6ish bars by the end of a 5 minute song. This happens for all of the videos.

My Solution:
The only solution I've found, is to either:
1) Clear out the videos out of the column and re-drop them back into Resolume. Once I do that, without touching or changing anything else, the videos playback in perfect sync.
OR
2) Not close out Resolume, and leave the program running and just close the lid of the computer.

Anyone have any idea what is happening or how I can fix it?
It's not:
Changing SMPTE, differing FPS, the speed of the videos isn't being changed, the location of the videos aren't being changed, the offset is reading the same.

Suggestions? Anything is welcome! Thanks for the help!

Does Ableton start up with the same tempo settings as you closed it, and is the tempo changing mid session ?

Are the SMPTE tracks in Ableton set to Re-pitch Warp mode?

Do you also need to adjust the settings of the sound card on each restart?
I had an issue with a Focusrite card on windows that it always forgot the buffers settings.

Have you tried with 29.97 NDF SMPTE track?
