I have a fairly simple setup with 12 clips on one layer, 12 effect clips on another layer, with both layers going to a group. The clips are being triggered via OSC (using OOEEVV's M4L patches from Ableton). I've got a few different bits of IAC MIDI routing going on in Live 9 and a couple of other M4L patches, but again, nothing that crazy.
Resolume has now started freezing after about 30 seconds once I try to play anything (well, it still kind of runs, but I can't select any clips), and I have to force quit. It seemed to be working earlier but now the composition seems corrupted.
I started with a much more complicated setup but decided to strip it right back in the hope I can get it all to work. I'm reaching my wits end trying to endlessly troubleshoot problems getting Resolume and Live to talk to each other. I can't believe it's this hard to get everything to work!
I'm running everything on one laptop (latest Live 9 and Res Arena 6 versions on a MacBook Pro 2017 with a 4GB Radeon Pro card), so this basic setup should be easily do-able.
Any help on why Res is freezing would be greatly appreciated.
Resolume freezes, can't select clip, have to force quit
Re: Resolume freezes, can't select clip, have to force quit
My first guess would be that you created a midi feedback loop.
If you're on Resolume 6 open up the inspector in the Midi preferences and check if the incoming messages are what you'd expect. (It's the small play button on the top right in preferences.)

Re: Resolume freezes, can't select clip, have to force quit
Ah legend! That's a really useful feature I didn't know about.
There's all kinds of craziness being sent over from Ableton. I had the IAC set to input and output data in Live so that may have been causing issues. Even after I switched off the input though, I think there might be a dodgy M4L patch or something as it's sending random CC data even when it's not playing. Resolume also seemed to be receiving IAC clock data, even when the box was unticked in Res preferences. Weird stuff. I think it's time to rebuild the Ableton setup from scratch, but at least I now have a way to check up on everything.
I'm also wondering if it's a better strategy to stick to 100% OSC (if possible) instead of mixing OSC and MIDI via IAC messages...
Anyway, many thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Re: Resolume freezes, can't select clip, have to force quit
Resolume receives whatever you send to it, once you activated an input, I guess you have the clock enabled in Ableton.Fableist wrote: Sat Jan 05, 2019 10:45 Resolume also seemed to be receiving IAC clock data, even when the box was unticked in Res preferences. Weird stuff.
The clock is coming on the same midi device, and the Clock setting in Resolume switches Resolume to a mode where it cares about the clock info. When it's off, the clock data gets ignored.
