ASUS laptop and all Resolumes I tried won't work

ASUS 17.3" Republic of Gamers Strix GL702VM - bought it last year specifically to run a Resolume installation at DEF CON. It didn't work - everything appears to work with the OS, but Resolume starts out with "display disabled" and when I select any display that's plugged in as an output in Resolume - Resolume freezes and crashes hard.
I waited a YEAR to try Resolume 6 - but it shows the same exact behavior.
We endlessly updated the graphics card drivers, etc. Not sure what the issue is.

Any ideas for what we can do?
We have to do an install at DEF CON again in about 2 weeks, I would hate to see it just not work forever, that laptop is supposed to be great for visuals.
